Liquid ballast for tractor tires
Powell Ag Tire adds liquid ballast, the fluid in a tractor tire, when a tire has run low after being flat a few times, or when someone buys a tractor that does not have it.
What liquid ballast does
Fluid in a rear tractor tire adds weight low on the machine. That weight helps the tires grip and keeps the tractor steadier, especially with a loader on the front or a heavy implement behind.
When it needs topping up
- The tire has been flat a few times and lost fluid along the way
- The tire was repaired or replaced and the fluid came out
- A new tractor that came without fluid in the tires
How it sits in the tire
A tire is usually filled with the valve stem turned to the top, so the fluid sits low and air stays above it. When you call about a flat, say whether the tire has fluid in it: it changes the job.

Questions people ask
Do you put fluid in tractor tires?
Yes. Liquid ballast is added to tractor tires, for example when a tire has run low after being flat a few times, or when a tractor came without it.
Do you come out to the farm, or do I bring the tractor in?
Both. Tractor tires are repaired and replaced on the farm, where the tractor sits, and the same work is done at the shop in Scottsville. Cars and trucks are worked on at the shop.
