Front-end alignment

A front-end alignment sets the angles of the wheels so the car or truck tracks straight and the tires wear evenly. Powell Ag Tire does front-end alignments on cars, pickups and SUVs at the shop in Scottsville.

Signs your alignment is off

  • It drifts or pulls on a straight, level road.
  • The steering wheel sits crooked when you drive straight.
  • One edge of a tire wears faster than the rest.
  • You hit a pothole or a curb hard, or new steering parts went in.

What an alignment adjusts

Toe
Whether the front of each tire points in or out. Toe that is off scrubs the tread and wears the edges.
Camber
How far each tire leans in or out at the top. Too much wears one shoulder.
Caster
The tilt of the steering axis. It affects how the steering returns to center and how the car holds a line.

When a pull is not the alignment

A tire can make a car pull even when the alignment is right. If a pull hangs on after an alignment, say so: the tires get a look too.

Questions people ask

What should I have ready when I call?

The tire size off the sidewall and any brand you have in mind. For a farm call, where the machine is. For a car or truck, the year, make and model.

Do you do engine or transmission work?

No. The shop works on tires, brakes, alignment, steering, suspension, struts and tie rods, and does oil changes. Engine and transmission work is not something it takes on.
